How we calculate impact
We give a range with a source, not a round number without explanation. And we only claim avoided manufacturing, not offsetting.
1. The footprint of a new business laptop
Roughly 200 to 330 kg CO₂e over its whole lifetime, of which 75 to 85% comes from manufacturing. Dell publishes 290 ± 58 kg for the Latitude 5440.
2. What reuse saves
Research by Fraunhofer Austria, commissioned by refurbed, arrives at a saving of roughly 78% compared with a new device.
3. Per unit
200–330 kg × 78% = 156–257 kg CO₂e avoided per laptop that goes back into use. We only count devices that are actually reused.
What we do not say
No “climate neutral”, no “green”, no trees planted to offset. Only what we can back up.
